plotting and planning

I spent part of my afternoon off today doing laundry, and the other part plotting out the remainder of my flower garden.  I’m putting in mostly perennials, so that they are easier to work with in the long run… Here is what I have so far.

Looks good! I wish I had 1/10 of your gardening skills. Joe and I are going to try gardening in raised beds this year. I could use any advice you have!

hmm.. first piece of advice is to not go TOO big the first year. I did and got really overwhelmed. So I backed off and took it a bit easier the next year. I also have used this concept called square foot gardening which works really well in raised beds. If you have a 4×4 area, that means you have 16 squares to plant in. Mark them out with some string, and instead of planting rows, plant in that square. You can fit one tomato plant, one pepper plant in each square, but about 16 carrot plants and about 4-6 leaf lettuce plants. It is helpful for organizing and figuring out what you are doing!
